  How Online Therapy Works

Online therapy works in much the same way as face‑to‑face sessions, but takes place through a secure video call. Sessions are 50 minutesand follow the same structure and confidentiality as in‑person appointments.

Before the Session

  • A secure Google Meet or Microsoft Teams link will be emailed to you before your appointment.

  • You choose which of these options works best for you. Note some workplaces may use firewalls as protection if doing sessions in the office.

  • Please add the session to your diary or calendar so you have the link ready.

  • Make sure you can log in to either Google Meet or Teams before the session starts.

Setting Up Your Space

Try to sit somewhere:

  • quiet,

  • private,

  • where you feel comfortable speaking

  • with good lighting so we can see each other clearly.

Using headphones can also help with privacy and reduce distractions.

During the Session

  • Click the link a few minutes before the start time.

  • We will speak as we normally would, explore what’s been happening for you, and use therapeutic tools and strategies during the session.

  • If the connection drops, please try to rejoin using the same link.

  • If needed, the session can continue by telephone.

Internet & Technical Needs

  • Please ensure your Wi-Fi or internet connection is working before the session.

  • Having a phone or backup device nearby can help if your computer encounters issues.

After the Session

You can leave the meeting at the scheduled end time, and any follow‑up materials or notes will be emailed to you if needed.

Cancellation policy

I understand that life can be unpredictable, and there may be times when you need to change or cancel an appointment. To keep sessions running smoothly and ensure fairness for all clients, the following policy applies:

Cancellations or Rescheduling

  • Sessions can be cancelled or rescheduled up to 24 hours before the appointment time with no charge.

  • Notification should be made by email or text/phone.

Late Cancellations

  • Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the scheduled session will be charged at the full session fee.

Missed Sessions / No‑Shows

  • Missed appointments without prior notice will be charged at the full fee, as the time has been reserved exclusively for you.

Insurance‑Funded Clients

  • Most insurers do not cover late‑cancellation or missed‑session fees.

  • In these cases, you remain responsible for paying the full fee directly.

Illness, Emergency or Exceptional Circumstances

  • If an unexpected situation arises (e.g., sudden illness, emergency), please get in touch as soon as possible.

  • Charges may be waived at the therapist’s discretion.

Therapist Cancellations

  • If I need to cancel or reschedule a session, I will offer the earliest available alternative time.

  • No charge will ever be made for therapist‑initiated cancellations.

Online Session Connectivity

  • For online sessions, please ensure your internet connection is working.

  • If connection issues prevent the session from continuing, we may switch to telephone or reschedule when possible.

  • If the session cannot continue due to local connectivity issues on the client side, the session fee may still apply.
