Approaches I Use in Therapy

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy which explores the interaction between thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

Setting goals or small steps to support changes in thoughts, behaviours, or both.

Working collaboratively with your psychologist to achieve these goals.

Practising helpful strategies or activities between sessions.

Time‑limited work that focuses on developing new skills and learning.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is about maximising your potential for a more fulfilling life.

Developing skills to respond more effectively to difficult thoughts and feelings so they have less influence.

Clarifying your values to guide, motivate and support meaningful action.

Focusing your attention on what matters to you and engaging fully in the moment.

  • Mindfulness

Mindfulness has parallels with Buddhist principles but is scientifically based with a need for openness , awareness and focus.

Letting go of unhelpful thinking patterns.

Acceptance of painful feelings without fighting them.

    Staying in the here-and-now.
